Secure file storage
Files shared through Squarepaste are kept in private storage, and links to them are only given to people signed in to the project. Here is how that works and how long files are kept.
Encryption in Transit
Files are encrypted when being uploaded or downloaded:
- All file transfers use HTTPS
- Data is encrypted between your device and Squarepaste servers
- No files are transmitted in plain text
Private Storage
Files are kept in a private storage bucket, not a public folder:
- Each file is stored under the project it was shared in
- There is no public listing of files
Access Control
File access is controlled:
- A file link is only given to someone signed in to that project
- Links are only issued for files that belong to that project
- Files are tied to specific conversations
File Size and Type Limits
Squarepaste implements limits to ensure security and performance:
- Maximum file size: 10MB per file, including voice messages
- The file picker accepts images, PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, ZIP and RAR
File Retention
How long files are kept:
- Chat messages and their files are kept for 180 days, then removed automatically
- When an account is deleted, its files are permanently removed 30 days later
- You can download a copy of a conversation and its files at any time from the project's Actions tab → "Chat transcript"
Download Links
How file links work:
- Links are only given out after checking you're signed in to the project
- Links don't expire, so they keep opening from the chat. Anyone you forward a link to can open the file, so treat a file link like the file itself
We take file security seriously and continuously work to improve our security measures. If you have questions, contact our support team.
