Widget not showing on Squarespace site
If the Squarepaste widget isn't appearing on your Squarespace site, follow these troubleshooting steps to identify and fix the issue.
Open the Site in the Squarespace Editor
Squarepaste only shows in one place:
- Inside the Squarespace editor, with the site open in edit mode
- On your site's built-in address (yoursite.squarespace.com)
- It doesn't appear on your live site or on a custom domain
Log in to Squarespace and open the site in edit mode to see it. Clients who don't have Squarespace access can use the project's chat page instead – open the project, go to the Actions tab and copy the link under Chat page.
Check the Code Is Installed
Whichever way you added the site, the Squarepaste Code has to be pasted into Squarespace's Code Injection settings (Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Header).
Verify Widget Code
In Code Injection, check that:
- The widget code is in the Header section (not Footer)
- The code is complete and hasn't been cut off
- There are no extra characters or formatting issues
- The data-website-id in the code matches the Squarepaste Code shown under the project's Actions tab → Install
Check Project Status
Open the project in your Squarepaste dashboard and go to the Actions tab:
- Install should read "Live" with a time. "Not detected yet" means the widget hasn't loaded on the site yet
- End this project should read "Active", not "Archived"
- The project's domain must be the site's built-in .squarespace.com address
Check Access
- If the project is private, people only see the widget after signing in to Squarepaste as an invited member
- Squarepaste also stops showing if your trial has ended or your subscription has lapsed. Check Settings → Plan & Billing
Clear Browser Cache
Cached versions of your Squarespace site might hide the widget:
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac)
Wait for Propagation
Sometimes changes take a few minutes to appear:
- Wait 5-10 minutes after installation
- Check multiple pages on your Squarespace site in the editor
- Try different browsers
Reinstall the Widget
If the above steps don't work, try reinstalling:
- Open the project and go to the Actions tab → Install
- Copy the Squarepaste Code again
- Paste it into Code Injection → Header, replacing the old one
Tip: If you still don't see the widget after trying these steps, contact support with the project name and what the Install row says.
